Grey headed flying-fox

A series of photos of a day camp of grey headed flying fox (Pteropus poliocephalus), at Palms National Park in Queensland, Australia. The bats are very active during the daylight hours, moving from different areas of the camp, squabbling for the best spots and some bats trying to sleep among all of the noise and disturbance. These bats are listed as Vulnerable under the IUCN list of threatened species.  These images were captured using Nikon D300s and D7000 DSLR cameras, using Sigma 50-500mm and 500mm lenses. These allow a greater distance to be kept between photographer and subject, thereby reducing disturbance to the animals, whilst still allowing close ups.
